Although hormones play a part in your metabolism, more muscles mean a higher metabolism.

Exercising is always important when you're dieting, because when you're body has gone into starvation mode, it will convert your muscles to energy, even faster than it will use your fat stores. Your body's doing its best for you - it's saving your life. But unfortunately when muscles are converted to energy, your metabolism drops even lower.

So to raise your metabolism, you've got to get more muscles.

There's no need to join a gym. You've got all the exercise equipment you need in your own home. Go for a walk every day. Use any steps in your home: stepping up and down on a step for five minutes will build your leg muscles and raise your metabolism.

If you're dieting, it can take a lot to start exercising. You're tired! However, just a short walk will give you energy. Don't create a huge exercise plan for yourself. Just walk for ten minutes - don't think about it, just do it. When you come back from your walk, you'll be amazed that you feel better. After a week or two of short walks, you'll look forward to them and will naturally increase your exercise because you want to.
